In 1673 Gottfried Leibniz was awarded a fellowship of the Royal Society for his 9 step mechanical calculator. Publishing Of An Organum or Ars Magna Of Thinking in 1679, he outlined his belief that “the supreme happiness of man consists in the greatest possible increase of his perfection.” Thirteen years earlier Sveriges Riksbank had been founded from the ruins of the failed Stockholms Banco, which had collapsed after issuing too many banknotes in the form of unsecured loans.
In 1997 Sveriges Riksbank awarded the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences to Robert Merton and Myron Scholes for their work with Fischer Black. Together they had developed a ‘perfect’ mathematical instrument used by Wall Streetinvestment banks for calculating hedging strategies. In 2008 Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy due to trading on unsecured loans and marked a major downturn in the world economy.

The show consisted of two parts - a new installation in the front space of the gallery, and the presentation of smaller works and projects in the back room.
